The City of Queretaro PDF Print E-mail

Santiago de Queretaro is the capital of the state. Its Historical Downtown has been named by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The visitor will enjoy walking through beautiful plazas and gardens around historical buildings from the colonial era, in contrast with modern constructions which are proof of the development of the state.

Old houses and Haciendas have been remodeled and converted into luxury hotels and restaurants where you can make a stop just to admire the inside of the buildings and have a drink or make the stop for a whole dinning experience. There are museums, monuments, bars, discos, romantic cafes and beautiful walking sites to visit in this city with a wonderful mix of its past and present. There are cobble stone streets, adoquin (brick) roads, some of which are only for people and closed to traffic, so walking in downtown can be really pleasant. There is a big contrast between these streets and the noisy highways which make the entrance to the city.

There is a big soccer stadium called La Corregidora. This stadium and the Auditorio are symbols of the modern world; and the aqueduct is a silent proof of its past.

Walk around downtown, with the sound of the Huapango music, eat fabulous regional cuisine, enjoy great weather, and during summer smell the jacarandas while walking in the streets.
