The country of Mexico has an enormous diversity of outdoor activities and depending on the state, climate and geographical areas you choose you will be able to find an activity that is exactly right for you and for the whole family. Baja California This state borders the state of California in the US and the city of San Diego is just minutes away, Los Angeles is two hours north of the border. The year round climate makes this area a fantastic place for countless outdoor activities. At the moment we have wonderful properties in Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada and San Felipe for sale, for rent as well as vacation properties. Some of the Outdoor Activities include:
Baja California Sur This state is bordered to the north Baja California, to the west Pacific Ocean and to the east by the Gulf of California which is also known as the Sea of Cortez named after Hernan Cortes. Properties in Baja California Sur include Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, Loreto and La Paz. Outdoor Activities
Sonora This state has a large stretch of land that borders to the north with the states of Arizona and New Mexico in the US as well as the Sea of Cortes to the west. The climate in Sonora is dry and can reach extreme temperatures. The beaches are superb and very popular amongst foreigners. In Alamos, Sonora many outdoor day trips are recommended such as:
Nuevo León The state of Nuevo Leon has many interesting routes for your enjoyment where you will be able to go into mines and caves or practice activities such as mountain biking, bird watching, astronomy and wildlife photography. Hunting is another activity you can practice in various corners of the state.
The climate in Nuevo Leon is very hot from May to August and the rainy season is from August to October. Sabinas Hidalgo is a Municipality just 99 km from the capital Monterrey; it has a biological corridor which is protected. In this area you can spot over 100 species of animals and birds (pumas, birds, deer, hawks, cardinals and many more). Jalisco The variety of climate within the state goes from cool, to tropical and moderate high in the central plains so outdoor activities vary depending on the area. Nayarit The state of Nayarit has a large undeveloped coastline and it has beautiful natural wonders for anyone in love with nature and outdoor activities. Surfing, lagoons, wild life expeditions, beaches. Punta Mita is growing with the construction of new developments and elegant residential areas. There are three spectacular championship golf courses and only minutes from Puerto Vallarta in the state of Jalisco. Other outdoor activities include scuba and snorkeling in the coral reefs, boat tours and horseback riding. Hidalgo The state of Hidalgo is within the Bajio area in Mexico and the towns and villages in the state are usually quiet and generally free of tourists although that may change in the coming years. There is no airport in this state so getting there either from Mexico City, Leon or Queretaro by car or bus is the best alternative. Outdoor activities:
Queretaro The state of Queretaro is 220 km from Mexico City. It is a wonderful place to live; nice climate, beautiful historical building, schools, industry and many outdoor activities. Outdoor activities in the city of Queretaro include:
Guanajuato The state of Guanajuato has many fascinating places to live as well as outdoor activities. It is located in the central part of Mexico. Guanajuato the state capital is a very picturesque town that dates from around 1700's El callejon del beso is a must see; it is a narrow alley with a legend where two lovers can kiss from the opposite side of the street. Another great door activity is just strolling along the streets or visiting the Ex Hacienda San Gabriel de la Barrera a 16th century Hacienda which has 17 gardens on three acres of land. Thousands of foreigners have made San Miguel de Allende their permanent home. The average temperature all year is around 71 F so outdoor activities can take place all year long. Activities include golf, wandering through the town, parks, hiking, camping, and bird watching. Michoacán This state is known for its natural beauty and national parks. Outdoor activities include: Eco Tourism, camping, hiking, mountain biking, extreme sports. A very interesting trip is visiting the monarch butterfly sanctuary (October, November), and the archeological area of Tzintzuntzan. Patzcuaro is another special place to visit and a great day-trip for the family just 40 miles from Morelia the state capital (a beautiful colonial city).While walking in the streets of Morelia we can see many open doors; people bring out a chair from their home to sit outdoors and watch the daily coming and going and say hello to neighbors. When you stroll through the streets of downtown Morelia you will notice the many styles in architecture and don’t miss the aqueduct formed by 253 arches. If you like sports there is a new development complex called Tres Marias. Lots and houses are being built and are currently for sale. This is a great place for living as well as for sport and outdoor lovers. The golf course holds 27 holes and is within beautiful mountain surroundings. Other sports include tennis, soccer fields, cycle tracks, swimming pool, a riding circuit and vast green areas. Morelos Morelos is called the land of “Eternal Spring” because of the magnificent climate year round. You can enjoy some of the many balnearios with natural waters in the state of Morelos, stroll through some of the many gardens and parks Cuernavaca has numerous outdoor activities such as; swimming, near by golf courses (such as Tabachines and Santa Fe), water skiing in the lake of Tequesquitengo only about thirty minutes away, plus many parks and gardens all around. Cocoyoc is famous for its hacienda which was converted into a hotel many years ago. Outdoor activities include horse back riding, golf and swimming. There is a large residential comunity for weekend comers from Mexico City as well as families that live here year round. Chiconcuac is a very small village in the outskirts of Cuernavaca (20 minutes). It is a very peaceful village and a perfect place for those who seek outdoor living. Most of the houses or quintas in the village have large gardens and swimming pools. You can stroll to the village main plaza and witness the aqueduct which is still in use and relax under the shade of a jacaranda tree. Guerrero Acapulco, Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo and Taxco are magnificent places to live as well as choosing them as second homes or to spend a great vacation. You can choose to travel by car and bus from Mexico City to Acapulco and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo or choose any of the daily domestic and international flights offered from numerous cities. Taxco does not have an airport so traveling by car from Mexico City or Cuernavaca is the alternative. Outdoor activities: Acapulco and Ixtapa- Zihuatanejo have every beach and water activity you can imagine (surfing, skiing, motor ski, sailing, fishing, swimming etc…) Other than water activities you can practice golf, biking, tennis, sightseeing, tropical scenery, running tracks etc…
Taxco is a colonial city enclosed in the mountains and the main silver producer in the country. Walk through the cobblestone streets or practice hiking. You can visit or the grottos of Cacahuamilpa located at only 30 minutes from Taxco (52 km) or the archeological ruins of Xochicalco ( in the state of Morelos) but great for a short day trip. |
