Nayarit Colonial Architecture PDF Print E-mail

The state of Nayarit is characterized by the architectural wealth of its buildings that allow visitors to see its glorious past and its happy present.

Nayarit is located in the coasts of the Mexican Pacific. It keeps the architectural testimonies of the colonial time. There are beautiful buildings filled with history and tradition in Tepic, the capital of the state. If you like walking, you can do so around Tepic. You can visit the cathedral of Our Lady of the Asuncion, built in the 16th century; the portal of la Bola de Oro and the former Hotel Imperial, in the main square, both built in the 18th century. Other places to visit are: the poet Amado Nervo's house-museum, from the 19th century; the old Family Rivas y Linan de las Cuevas' home, today the Regional Museum of Nayarit; and the Government's Palace, a neoclassical architecture building. The Port of San Blas is located in the west of the state. It was founded in the 19th century. A former Franciscan convent, built in honor of Our Lady of the Asuncion is located in the city of Acaponete, in the north of the state. Jala is in the east of Tepic. Old large houses and the shrine of Our Lady of the Asuncion from the 19th century are found in this town.
