According to experts, Surfing was practiced for the first time in the Polynesian Islands; however some people say it was Hawaii. James Cook was amazed back in 1778 when he saw some surfers in Hawaii. Puerto Vallarta is the perfect place for surfing. There are many beaches in Bahia de Banderas, where you can take lessons and enjoy this fabulous sport. Bahia de Chamila is very popular among surfers. You can get there from Puerto Vallarta through the 200 beaches path. There are 2 small beaches of calm waves in Playa Cuatas, perfect to sail, water sky or surf. One is rocky, the other is almost white sand. Playa Careyes and Playa Rosa are also perfect for surfing. You can enjoy surfable waves in warm water, even in winter. The temperature remains above 70F. The right spots for surfing are less than 90 minutes from the airport. In the South of Bahia Banderas there are over 200 miles of coastline and surf spots, some of them are unnamed and inaccessible by land, but they are perfect for your favorite water sport. |
