The experience of shopping in Acapulco is wonderful. You may arrive with empty luggage and leave with no space left in your suitcase. You will be surprised of all the things you can find, from little souvenirs, items for your home, Mexican hand made gifts, jewelry, and furniture to original designer dresses. Because of the fact that Acapulco is a city for every budget, some of the prices may seem very reasonable compared to the rest of the resorts in Mexico. There are three main shopping-malls:
Costera Miguel Alemán, s/n, Zona Dorada, Acapulco, 39670 Mexico Costera Miguel Alemán, 123, A un costado de Plaza Bahía, Acapulco, 39670 Mexico Costera Miguel Alemán, 125 Centro Comercial Galeria and Plaza Bahia are next to each other and are often confused as one. Plaza Bahia is an air-conditioned shopping center featuring 4 levels of stores and restaurants, a movie theater, a video arcade and a bowling alley. You can shop at internationally known boutiques. Acapulco also has numerous little shops and markets all around the city, main avenues and within the hotels. Silver is one of the things that you can find at very affordable prices. Taxco which is a town within the state of Guerrero is the main producer of silver in the country. It is only 3 hours away and you can even find a day tour to this picturesque town. There are endless designs when it comes to jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings or whatever you might think of. People in this town have past on their knowledge from generation to generation and if you visit you will find considerable quantity of jewelry shops which manly sell silver pieces and some are very used to lowering the price if you buy more than two pieces. In the main boulevard, Costera Miguel Aleman, you can visit some fine shops and boutiques. Silver, ceramics, glassware, leather goods, jewelry, clothing and beachwear are some of the most popular items also found inside the main hotels. If you visit the downtown area, you will be able to find more affordable prices and if you shop in an open market, bargain is expected. Shop in the morning and you will get a better bargain because the sellers are truly expecting their first sale of the day which is really important to them, besides it is not as crowded. After you ask for the first price, sigh, say it is beautiful but too expensive for you, the price will go down, and the negotiation will begin. There are also a number of galleries, where you will find great paintings many from locals or nearby artists at a reasonable price. There is a Sears in the downtown area and several Sanborns stores in Acapulco; a well known Mexican chain which has a restaurant, a bar, drugstore, books, newspapers and magazines, gifts, tobacco shop, bakery and perfumes all in one place. Please do not try to bargain here. For grocery shopping: Sam’s Club, Costco, and Wal-Mart are also located in Acapulco. |
