Rosarito began with a man named Don Joaquin Machado applying for title to his fathers land known as El Rosarito Ranch on May 14th 1885, which had been granted to his father Don Jose Manuel Machado 60 years earlier in 1825. The president of Mexico at that time, Porfirio Diaz granted him title and May 14th, was forever known as Founder’s Day.

Since before that time Rosarito had already attracted tourists, due to its great hunting and fishing, so naturally in the years that followed there were new establishments popping up; like Rene’s in 1925 and the Rosarito Beach Hotel the following year, which continued attracting more people. Which led to the further development of the area in the 1950’s with the planning of the infrastructure and construction of the streets and city blocks. From this, businesses came and with them more people which impulsed the development of a thermoelectric power plant and the installations of PEMEX which in turn kept attracting more people, construction and shops.

The 70’s, 80’s and 90’s were known for Rosarito’s population and economic growth because of the relaxed atmosphere of Rosarito beach, more construction and competition (between hotels, condo developments, shopping centers and tourist oriented businesses) to promote their fine quality services. Then in 1995 Rosarito went from being a suburb of Tijuana to being a new municipality and independent city.

Rosarito is still growing in 2006; there are many different developments that are bringing more and more people to Baja California, because of the luxurious qualities and amenities, at inexpensive prices. Also because of the tranquility, closeness and especially the personable people that live here. It is now a lot easier for foreigners to purchase here, whether it is through a bank trust or a Mexican corporation, they have full ownership.

Just Recently I found out about the history of Rosarito and the progress it has made, which really impressed me, but also left me wanting more for my adoptive town, it made me desire improvements for the future.

I would like to wake up one morning and see people move to Rosarito, not because it is close to San Diego or Ensenada or just because it is a vacation spot, but because there are fantastic attractions here, great jobs, clean streets, entertainment centers, businesses that can provide many different services, fantastic sights, happy people and much much more.

That is why I encourage anyone who would like to help Rosarito ascend, to do just that, help Rosarito. Bring your businesses here, invest where the people are migrating, give them options, make it accessible to everyone, create jobs, create standards, competition, get involved and make a difference. All of this benefits everyone as a society. Now is the time! Prices for property are still low, improvements are on the verge of being completed or proposed, roads are being paved, city services are going in throughout the town, this and much more will continue for many, many years.
