Loreto Bay, Mexico PDF Print E-mail

Loreto is a historic village that sits between the shores of the Sea of Cortez and the Sierra de la Giganta mountains. It was the first settlement of the Baja Peninsula, and has more that 300 years of history. There are ancient cave paintings and historic stone Missions.

In addition to its history it has now wonderful future; Loreto Bay is destined to become a unique community, where everything is within a short walk and developing into a modern, safe, and economically successful region. Loreto Bay was designated by FONATUR, (Mexico's tourism development division) as a place with the potential to become a world-class tourism destination.

Loreto has a sunny climate and a warm sea where you can swim all year-round. It has a world-class sport fishing, diving, kayaking, whale-watching, hiking and golf. Loreto's beaches are less crowded and ideal for practicing snorkeling, scuba and other water sports. The turquoise waters and the five islands located just off shore provide the spectator with magnificent views as well as the opportunity to practice eco- tourism.

You can get to Loreto air, land or sea. Several airlines like AeroMexico and Alaska Airlines have flights from San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, Mexico City and Hermosillo. The International airport is only a ten-minute drive from The Villages of Loreto Bay. If you are traveling by land, you have to take the desert scenery route along the Trans peninsular highway, Mex 1. This highway runs from Tijuana and all the way Cabo San Lucas. It takes about 18 hours to drive down the 700 mile path. If you are coming by sea, Puerto Escondido and the new Escalara Nautica offer several options of ports and marinas throughout Baja and there are ideal places to anchor during your stay.
